Srinagar, Aug 27: Irrigation and Flood Control Department said there is absolutely no threat of floods in Kashmir.

A weather office official downplayed flood threats even as water level in several streams and the Jhelum River is increasing. However, Chief Engineer, Irrigation, Flood and Control, Kashmir, Iftikhar Ahmed Kakroo said that chances of flood are very less. He said due to long dry spell water level in rivers had already decreased and as of now there is no flood threat. Kakroo told news agency KNT that water level in Sangam is receding and below danger mark.

He said the water level in Sangam is 7.20 and if it touches 14, we will issue flood alert and when it crosses 21 mark, that is danger level. Kakroo said RM Bagh shows the gauge reading as 9.64 while the danger mark is 18. At Asham the water level is 6.28, while the danger mark is 14. (KNT)
