3 vehicles seized, 35 challaned for violating COVID-19 protocol in Bandipora

Bandipora, Aug 31: Authorities in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday challenged at least 35 vehicles and seized three passenger vehicles for not following the SOPs and guidelines related to COVID-19.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that on the directions of deputy commissioner Bandipora, ARTO Bandipora, Suhaib Wani conducted extensive checking on different inter-district routes and imposed fine on the traffic violators.

“During the inspection, more than 200 vehicles were checked by the team and the violators were fined for overloading and overcharging,” he said.

He said that three passenger vehicles were also seized besides 35 were challaned for not following SOPs. “Vehicles were also challaned for plying without (HSRP) high security registration plates.

Meanwhile, ARTO Bandipora warned the violators of strict legal action while appealing people to cooperate with the administration.

He urged drivers and passengers to follow all the requisite advisories issued with the purpose to control the spread of COVID-19.

He also said that the “Passengers should inform us about overcharging and we will take strict action against transporters.”

Earlier, commuters from various areas of the district expressed their resentment against the authorities for failing to regulate passenger fares.

They had alleged that drivers were not following any SOPs as advised by the government.
