Will verify facts as to why the doctor attended theatre: MS

Bandipora, July 27: A doctor (Gynaecologist) posted at district hospital Bandipora who had come in contact with a COVID-19 positive patient and was put under administrative quarantine for seven days till Sunday, conducted cesarean surgeries at DH Bandipora on Monday even as he was advised for strict home isolation for seven days.

Sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the doctor conducted at least five cesarean surgeries at District Hospital Bandipora today despite being advised to remain under strict home isolation for a period of seven days.

They said that the doctor along with other medical staff who had come in contact with a COVID-19 positive patient at DH Bandipora last week was discharged from administrative quarantine yesterday after seven days and was advised to go under strict home isolation.

As per his discharge certificate, a copy of which lies with KNO, it was clearly mentioned by the in charge medical officer that the person (doctor) who was under administrative quarantine for a period 7 days at OSC Nishat Park quarantine centre has been discharged and is advised for strict home isolation for another 7 days.

Sources said that despite being advised for strict home isolation, which was mentioned with red ink on his discharge certificate, the doctor attended the theatre and conducted at least five cesarean surgeries, thereby putting the lives of patients at risk.

They said that earlier, the doctor also had mismanaged a pregnant patient while conducting her surgery at district hospital Bandipora who later turned positive for COVID-19.

“That day as well, the doctor risked the patient and her new born baby’s life even. Today, he repeated the same thing and attended hospital theatre despite being advised for strict home isolation for 7 days, which is clearly mentioned on his discharge certificate. This is sheer mismanagement on part of the hospital authorities and the doctor,” sources added.

Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Bandipora, Dr. Bashir Ahmad Teli confirmed that the doctor had attended the theatre and also conducted surgeries there despite being advised for strict home isolation.

He, however, said that he will verify the facts as to why the doctor attended his duties and conducted surgeries. “This is a serious matter. I will verify the facts,” he added—(KNO)
