Family appeals government to release him on humanitarian ground

Qazigund, Aug 19: A family in Kund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has been finding it hard to make their ends meet as their lone bread earner is behind bars for the last more than a year.
Sheeraz Ahmad Ganaie son of Gul Mohammad Ganaie, a resident of Nobugh village of Kund Qazigund was arrested in a drug related case on 20 June 2019 by Jammu police and is still lodged in Udhampur city Jail.
The family members told the new agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they don’t have any source of income as they don’t owe any land and any property. Sheeraz, who was the lone bread earner of his family, has three little kids, wife and his mother.
They said that Sheeraz was driving a Sumo of a local person and was earning little amount on what they were able to make their ends meet. “Since the day he was arrested they have found it difficult to make their ends meet. He is behind the bars for the last 14 months now. He is innocent as the drugs which were recovered from his vehicle were of a passenger who was in the vehicle,” they said, while demanding his release.
Sheeraz’s mother, Aisha Begum said that she begs everyday so as to feed his children and wife as they have no other option has left now. “My son has no one who can take care of his family and help in releasing him as his father has died when he was of tender age and he has no other siblings,” she said.
Sheeraz’s wife Shaheena Akhter said that they have met him this year in the month of February and since then due to unavailability of money they are unable to meet him. “We don’t have a single penny, how can we reach Udhampur to meet him,” she said, adding that, her children often weep and ask her about their father.
“They are insisting me to take us to Udhampur so that we can meet him but what can I do when I don’t have anything to feed them,” she said. Family members appealed to the Lt. Governor lead administration to release him on humanitarian grounds as their family is completely devastated—(KNO)
