Dilapidated roads spark shutdown, protest in Khag

Dilapidated roads spark shutdown, protest in Khag

Budgam, Aug 24: Amid shutdown, inhabitants of Khag and its adjacent areas Monday staged a protest against Roads and Buildings Department for failing to blacktop 12 kilometer road from Aripanthan to Khag.

The locals observed a complete shutdown as a mark of protest. All the shops and business establishments remained shut while protesting locals blocked traffic to attract the attention of officials.

“The Aripanthan-Khag road is in a pathetic condition. The 12-km length of this road is in shambles for many years with its Aripanthan, Warihama, Arwah and Gondipora-Oultigam-Charangam stretches completely dilapidated,” said the protesters to KNT.

They said this road was sanctioned in 2016 but even after the expiry of 4 years, R&B did nothing to ease out the sufferings of people.

They alleged that concerned Tehsildar is doing only lip service and always make hollow promises.

Executive Engineer, R&B Asghar Watali justified the protest of people saying he is unable to confront people but assured that work on the road will start soon. (KNT)
