Srinagar, Aug 24, KNT: Wakf employees here in Kashmir Valley Monday staged a protest alleging they are being deprived of every benefit after the abrogation of Article 370 and medications in the Central Wakf Act.
These employees said they were entitled for DA, Medical expenses and retirement benefits but after the constitutional changes their fate hangs in balance and they don’t know whether they will get the same benefits or not.
The Central Waqf Act became applicable to J&K after two state laws governing management of Wakf properties were abolished by the Parliament.
The Jammu & Kashmir Wakf Act-2001 and The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Specified Wakfs and Specified Wakaf Properties (Management and Regulation) Act 2004 were the laws governing management of Muslim Shrines and properties in the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Waqf Board and Waqf Council constituted under these laws ceased to exist with abolition of these laws from October 31, 2019 when J&K Re-Organization Act came into effect.
The Wakf employees told KNT that things need to get cleared so that they could come to know what they gained and what they lost. “We don’t know whether we will get same benefits as we used to get before the abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir,” the protesting employees told KNT.
