11 shops gutted in Kupwara midnight blaze

Kupwara, Aug 28: At least 11 shops were gutted in a midnight blaze incident at Manwan Aawora village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that nearly a dozen shops were gutted in a blaze that broke out in the intervening night of Thursday-Friday.

The official said that though the actual cause of fire was not ascertained yet while the loss suffered in the blaze was also being estimated.

Locals told KNO that at least 11 shops having different stock within were gutted in the incident. The shops include Kiryana, Medical store, tailoring and others.

Locals said that the fire tenders failed to reach the spot on time, thus caused more damage to the shops.

Demanding a Fire and Emergency Services station in the locality, the locals said that not only today but the entire hamlet has suffered huge losses in the tragic fire incidents in past too but the administration never paid heed to the repeated requests.

Meanwhile, the locals sought attention from administration and demanded early compensation for the affected shopkeepers at an earliest—(KNO)
