Jammu Division gets 92% of J&K’s EWS certificates

Srinagar, Feb 04: The Jammu division accounts for the bulk of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates issued in Jammu and Kashmir, with over 24,500 certificates granted so far in two years, while the Kashmir Valley remains much lower with just 2,013 certificates.

Government data, accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), reveals that a total of 26,558 EWS certificates have been issued across the Union Territory. Of these, 24,545 were issued in the Jammu division alone.

District-wise figures show Kathua leading with 6,972 certificates, followed by Jammu district with 5,881 and Samba with 4,436. In the Kashmir division, Anantnag recorded the highest number with 483 certificates, followed by Kulgam with 390 and Baramulla with 332.

The government said all applications are examined strictly as per rules and guidelines. It clarified that EWS certificates are denied only when applicants fail to meet the eligibility conditions prescribed under SRO 518 of 2019.

It further stated that cases involving shared residential property with married siblings or other legal shareholders are assessed individually, and rejection is made only where the prescribed criteria are not fulfilled—(KNO)
