Poonch, May 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday accused the National Conference (NC)-led government of betraying the youth of Jammu and Kashmir by failing to fulfil the promise of one lakh jobs and allowing “backdoor appointments” in exchange for money.
Addressing party workers at a one-day convention in Poonch, Mehbooba as per Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the party had waited for nearly two years as a responsible opposition after the NC was entrusted with a massive mandate. “Promises relating to free electricity, free gas, and unemployment relief remain largely unfulfilled,” she said.
Coming down heavily on the government over the jobs crisis, she claimed disturbing reports were emerging of vacancies being sold for money and political influence facilitating irregular appointments. “How are appointments being made without transparent examinations or interviews?” she questioned, asserting that the youth were being “pushed to the wall.”
She further remarked that while the government speaks about fighting the drug menace, it is simultaneously snatching away opportunities that could secure the future of young people.
The former chief minister also reiterated demands for divisional status for the Pir Panjal region and Hill District status for remote areas like Mendhar, questioning the “silence” of the NC on these issues. She called for urgent upgradation of healthcare infrastructure in the region, saying people should not be forced to travel long distances for basic medical facilities. (KNS)
