Jammu, May 11: Jammu and Kashmir Transport Commissioner Vishesh Pal Mahajan expressed concern on Sunday that bike taxi service Rapido is “illegally” operating in the union Territory.

In a post on X, the Transport Commissioner said, “my office had received several complaints regarding the operation of Rapido in the union Territory.”

“Let me clarify that this bike service does not have a license to operate in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, adding, “Furthermore anybody participating in the service or using it is doing so at his/her own risk.”

“I have given directions to my Officers to take action against this illegal service,” he added.

“It is a security concern and the operator has to apply under J&K Motor Vehicle Aggregator Policy,” Vishesh Mahajan told UNI.

He added that Ola and Uber have already given permissions to operate in Jammu and Kashmir but they have not yet started for which notices are issued to them and their licenses will be cancelled if delayed.

Notably, the Jammu and Kashmir Motor Vehicle Aggregator Rules, 2023 (effective from September 2023) mandate that all taxi/bike taxi aggregators must obtain a license from the Transport Department to operate.

The policy prioritizes registered companies, requires a 24/7 control room, and enforces driver welfare, passenger safety, and fare regulations.–(UNI)
