Srinagar, Sep 18: National Health Mission (NHM) employees in Jammu and Kashmir have called off their ongoing strike after a written assurance from Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo over their pending demands.

The decision was taken following deliberations between the representatives of NHM employees and the government, wherein the minister assured that their genuine demands would be taken up for consideration and appropriate action.

After the written assurance, the employees decided to suspend their protest and resume duties, bringing much-needed relief to healthcare services that had been hit due to the strike.

The NHM employees were pressing for resolution of their long-pending demands including job security, regularization and service conditions.

The development is expected to ensure smooth restoration of NHM-related healthcare services across Jammu and Kashmir.

NHM staff from various districts, hospitals, health centres and other healthcare institutions across Jammu and Kashmir had joined the protest, which continued peacefully for the past 9 days.(GNS)
