Srinagar, Sep 17: Ahead of the peak apple harvesting season, continuous rainfall across parts of south Kashmir has brought much-needed relief to farmers, with cooler weather replacing the recent high daytime temperatures.

Apple growers as per news agency JKNS said, some fruits had suffered sunburn during the recent hot spell. However, the change in weather has eased heat-related concerns, while the rainfall has improved soil moisture in orchards.

Farmers are hopeful that continued rainfall and cooler temperatures will support colour development in apples, particularly as the crop approaches maturity and harvesting.

“The rainfall and drop in temperature have brought relief to us. We are hopeful that the cooler weather will help improve the colour of the apples ahead of harvesting,” growers said.

With the peak harvest approaching, orchardists are making preparations for picking and transportation, while hoping that weather conditions remain favourable in the coming days.

The horticulture sector remains a key pillar of Kashmir’s rural economy, with thousands of families dependent on apple cultivation for their livelihoods. A favourable harvest season is expected to provide economic support to growers and others associated with the horticulture sector. (JKNS)
